Décor: Styling Your Wedding

On your Big Day, you’ll want to be surrounded by beauty and a touch of magic. There are all kinds of ways to get there: an archway dripping with flowers and greenery amid a wild meadow; next-wave neon; a gleaming, sumptuous ballroom. Your wedding décor is an opportunity to get creative in ways that will set the day’s tone and stand out in memories and photos.

Here are a few of our favorite ideas for styling your chosen venue:

Fabulous fabrics: Consider softening and glowing-up furniture and walls with dramatic drapery arrangements. The sheen of satin, the luster of velvet, puffs of lace, nubbly cozy knits, batik tapestries, woven rugs—any and all of them can be used to dress up shelves, tables, chairs, doorways, and corners. Don’t be afraid to mix textures and colors. Luscious layering: Layered textures are a design tactic you can use to elevate tables, seating arrangements, and ceremony and photo backdrops, crafting something exquisite and visually striking, Layers work whether you’re going rustic, modern, romantic, or any other style. The basic art of layering involves using a range of elements and heights—fabrics, florals, and lighting, for example, might all be layers in a backdrop, while tablecloths, runners, placemats, and napkins might be base layers for florals and crystal in a table setting—to add visual depth that fascinates the eye. To pull it all together, you can repeat wedding colors in various tones and textures.

Vintage décor: There’s something about the grace and craftsmanship of vintage pieces that delights the eye and evokes the sweep of human history, and a wedding is the perfect setting for a touch of nostalgia. You’ll find vintage furniture and accessories available to rent in a wide range of styles ranging from rustic to drop-dead elegant, from tableware and silver to major statement furniture.

Fruits and vegetables: Nature’s bounty carries powerful symbolism, evoking peace, abundance, and fertility. Use in floral arrangements r as stand-alones: apples and peaches in wooden baskets? Glowing bunches of grapes catching the light of a candelabra? A centerpiece of peaches, berries, and citrus? Colorful peppers amid bunches of fresh greenery? The possibilities abound.

Details & personal touches can be deployed throughout your venue to draw guests into your journey. How about a photo display of favorite moments near the guest book? Family heirlooms integrated into the décor? A giant card and markers, so all guests can sign and do a little drawing in a color of their choice?

Lighting will impact every other aspect of your décor, so choose it wisely. Candles and/or lanterns add a romantic touch. Strings of colored, gold, or white LEDs can add whimsical joy and sparkle. A pop of neon on the dance floor or at the bar can add visual excitement.

Statement lighting, in the form of a chandelier, pendant lamp, or floor lamp, can be used to create a focal point wherever you want one.

Seasonal inspirations can infuse your choice of accent color and décor and bring nature indoors, whether it’s blossoms and pastels for springtime; flowing greenery, water features, and seashells for summer; sheaves of grain and colorful gourds for autumn; or frosted crystal with diamond sparkles for wintertime.

Ice sculptures are back in, and we’re glad because they’re fun! The traditional approach is a standalone piece with a romantic theme, but you could also go with something that’s personal to the two of you—say, a rendering of your favorite bird or animal. Ice sculptures can be incorporated into food stations for chilled appetizers or desserts. An ice luge adds a layer of very cool (sorry!) fascination to the bar.

Projection mapping can be used to play a loop of favorite photos, places, artworks, or anything else on a venue wall and take a dance floor to the next level with an immersive light show.
