local wedding VENUES

Where do you picture yourselves on your special day?

In a castle? On a farm? On a boat? Against a backdrop of stunning mountain vistas, colorful gardens, rolling fields, gently flowing waters? Do you want a destination wedding, where you and thirty friends can make merry all weekend long? Whatever your dream may be, the Hudson Valley has a venue where you can make it happen, with professionals who will listen to your ideas and work hard to make them your reality.

Of course, there are practical considerations. How many people will you be inviting, and do any of them have special needs? Most venues are fully accessible, but make sure before you sign on the bottom line. Full bar, beer and wine, or non-alcoholic? What's included in the price, and how many hours of time will you have?
These and quite a few other questions can be answered online or on the phone, saving you a lot of bother. But when you've narrowed your choices down a bit, go visit. Be sure to go at around the same time of day to experience the setting in the same light your guests will see. Bring your camera, and take pictures of the features that matter most to you, so you can make comparisons and mull your options in comfort and privacy. Make an appointment with someone who's actually in charge of wedding arrangements and can give comprehensive, accurate answers to any questions you may have. Will this person be present on the day of the wedding? If not, make sure you get a chance to meet the staff member who will be. You don't want last-minute misunderstandings. Does it take your breath away to picture saying “I do” here? Imagining your first dance? Pick a place where you will love making memories. It goes without saying that you should like the overall vibe. How much work and arranging do you want to do yourself, and how much would you rather delegate? Some venues offer complete wedding packages, decorated, catered, caked, and DJ’d down to the last millimeter. Others offer just a lovely space that’s up to you to fill, although most will recommend service providers if you’d like. Between these two extremes, various venues offer various options. Take note of how you feel when you first walk in the door or arrive at the outdoor spot.
If you have décor planned, make sure it doesn’t clash with the room or location you choose. Are you after rustic or chic and sleek? Will your colors go well with the carpet? Many places post some pictures online, but these can’t tell the whole story. And ask whether the place will look the same on your wedding date. Seasonal changes are inevitable, but you’ll want to know about any major renovations or redecorating plans. If you’re looking at a larger venue, find out if they book more than one wedding at a time. Some people don’t mind rubbing elbows with another bridal party in the restrooms, while others do. If it matters to you, find out. Once you’ve got your venue reserved, other pieces of the puzzle will begin to fit into place. You’re on your way to the Hudson Valley wedding of your dreams!
