CAPTURING THE MOMENTS

Wedding Photography

date posted: March 14, 2020

You want the visual keepsake of your wedding to be a faithful record and a work of art, something that you’ll want to cherish on anniversaries and proudly share with your nearest and dearest. To get there, make sure a lot of images will be captured—you can always edit, but, of course, you can’t re-shoot. You may still want to get the classic shots of various bridal party and family groups shoulder to shoulder, but wedding photography possibilities are practically endless.

Make sure a lot of images will be captured—you can always edit, but, of course, you can’t re-shoot.

• Hire a photographer/videographer with wedding experience. It’s a specialized skill set and not something even the best-intended friend can make up as they go along. (Besides, you want that friend to relax and enjoy!)

A professional should be up on the latest tech and effects; you’ll know from their portfolio.

• You may want to ask everyone except the official photographer to unplug during the ceremony, focusing the energy entirely on the experience and avoiding getting upstaged on social media by some excitable friend.

• That said, do encourage friends to capture moments before and after the ceremony. Most people love taking pictures these days, and the photographer can’t be everywhere at once.

If you don’t mind your friends sharing online, consider creating a reception hashtag; if you do mind, find a polite way to make sure they know that in advance.

• Candids and behind-the-scenes shots add a depth and dimension to your record that posed lineups never can. If your photographer isn’t coming backstage for your getting-ready process, recruit a trusted friend.

• Know anyone (a teenager, perhaps?) who would be willing to play “wedding journalist?” Give that person a GoPro to table-hop with after dinner and have them ask guests for their thoughts.

• A selfie station at the reception, perhaps, with a cool backdrop or some fun props?

• Drones can capture majestic aerial perspectives.

• Hit a stunning outdoor location or luxe hideout nearby for a photo shoot in between the ceremony and the reception. Indulge in a quick celebratory toast, take some fun combo shots, and let a little (not too much!) suspense build for your grand entrance to the larger party.
