Wedding Day Hair & Makeup

As you may have noticed, getting ready for your wedding can be a lot more involved than just about any other event in life. Even if you’re generally a casual soul, you want your look to be flawless and on point; and if you usually step out looking like a model, you’ll probably want to dial it up to dazzling. If you want to DIY, leave plenty of time for research and practice. If you opt to work with a hair and makeup professional, here are some tips to simplify the process and get the gorgeous results you want:

• Choose a stylist with wedding experience; check out their work online or ask to see a portfolio to make sure you’re on the same gorgeous page.

• Schedule a trial run for your hair and makeup to get a sense of your overall look. To bring: any hair ornaments you plan to wear, one or two close friends, and a photo of your gown to show your stylist. Wear a top with a similar neckline and color.

• Tell your stylist whether you’ll be outdoors or in, and a little about your venue.

• Pay attention to what the stylist does and get a list of the products and shades they’re using, so you can be better prepared for touch-ups..

• Don’t be afraid to speak up! If something is just not you, say so—don’t assume the expert knows better. This is about looking your very best and you are the ultimate expert on what that looks like.

If you want to DIY your hair and makeup, leave plenty of time for research and practice.

• Get a written agreement that specifies what will happen on The Day. Will the entire wedding party be getting hair and makeup done? Just you, or you and your main attendant? How much time will the stylist need?

• Tip generously and then go have some fun and a meal. Take a few pictures to see how your look holds up.

• Go easy on the partying and get a good night’s sleep on Wedding Eve if you possibly can.

Pay attention to what the stylist does and get a list of the products and shades they’re using, so you can be better prepared for touch-ups.
